1. The comfort spender
"Shopping makes us happy when we're down in d dumps. Its like buying dat pair of shoes brings on a high".
Research shows dat people often get a high from shopping as d brain releases chemicals such as dopamine or serotonin when a person is simulated by discovering something new, such as a handbag. Sometimes, aspects of the shopping experience such as friendly sales clerks, eye-catching displays or aisles dat are easy to navigate, trigger brain activity dat brings about 'euphoric moments' - Dr David Lewis
Solution: Rather than heading to d malls, find expense-free activities dat make you happy, like atrip to d aquarium. Since dopamine and serotonin are simulated by discovering something new, visit the art gallery for d 1st time or try a new recipe at home. Live by d mantra 'Dont spend till u're strong', and aonly spend on things that'll perk up ur mood. Remember, these highs dont last very long-but credit card bills do!

2. The impulsive spender
This is the spur-of-d-moment shopper or thrill-seeker shopper. They love to buy on a whim, make unplanned purchases, usually lack self-control in buying situations, and lack clear priorities in spending, which result in overspending, unnecessary additional debt, unused articles and family arguments. They also tend to expunge any feelings of guilt unlike a prudent shopper. Most impulsive spenders sabotage themselves with the 'I want it now syndrome' which is characterised by spending beyond their incomes.
Solution: If u are an impulsive shopper, keep a notebook v u and write down wut u wanna buy. Decide if it is a 'want' or a 'need'. For items that fall in the 'want' column, giv urself a time limit, such as one week. Decide dat u cant buy it for the lenght of time. Many times after d week u will decide dat u really dun want it after all. Before buying on impulse, list item on Impulse List, talk about d item with ur spouse, compare prices, and wait 7days before purchasing it.

3. The copycat spender
Over d past decade, researchers have discovered that we actually have neurons in our brains dedicated to mirroring d behaviours of those around us. Copycat spenders are influenced by wut celebrities are doing. If the celebrities are getting Botox, then they've got to have one too; if the rich and famous head to d Bahamas during summer, then they want to do it too. These are the ultimate trend followers and dont like to left behind when it comes to the latest craze.
Solution: Experts say people overspend on makeup and clothes to plug the gap between their real and ideal selves. Instead of copying wut others are doing and buying, get the proffesional opinion of a personal stylist. Many highstreet shops and department stores offer this service and we have it in out own Robinsons.

4. The shameful spender
Heard the 'Keeping up with the Jones'? Those wu fall in this category are obsessed about keeping up with their friends and wut they 've ragardless of whether they can afford it. Not to be mistaken for copycat spenders, shameful spenders like to be at d same level as their peers and are sometimes too ashamed to admit dat they cant afford half the things their friends own. They r not trend followers, just concerned about behing left behind in their grup of friends. They wuld b the ones agreeing to dine at d fine dining restaurant dat will set them back a few days, out of pride and d need to justify their social standing.
Solution: The best and only way to overcome this is to come cleand and be honest with friends. You can alwaz explain to then dat u're cutting back on entertainment costs because of your debts or because u're saving money for more important things. Suggest cheaper ideas rather than going out to eat or club . Meet at someone's house and organise a potluck party. It's cheaper and u still get to have fun wit them.

5. The lazy spender
The lazy spenders dun make any effort to look for great deals. They usually stick to wut they know, and in most cases, its all pricey. The laziness can be seen as practically but in actual fact, its just pure effortless and brainless spending.
Solution: If u cant do it on a monthly basis or even on and off, then make it a yearly ritual. Turn it into an annual thing where u go out on a hunt for cheaper mobile phones, car or travel offers. The newspapers and now even d Internet can assist u in looking for affordable items for ur home, urself and gadgets and gizmos. It will make a different in ur savings and monthly bills.

6. The investment spender
u tell urself dat ur not a shopper or spender, but u still manage to be in debt. How does dat work? U've probably convinced urself dat buying a new car or motorbike is an invetment. D reality is dat cars and bikes rarely hold their value. The key factor is dat if u r putting urself uncomfortably in d red to get ur latest toy, then u're paying for it more than money-u're stressing urself out too.
Solution: If u really want a new toy, why not become a kid again. Remember when ur parents promised to match d amount of cash u saved out for dat new stereo? This works as much for holidays and weddings as it does for cars and motorbikes. Dun just imagine dat u're going to pay for it all later. By saving regular amounts now u'll lesson ur burden - and feel better about that 'investment' u're about to make.

7. The bargain spender
This is a typical stereotype of Asians - people wu luv to spend on items as long as they are on sale or promotion. They r most likely to spend on a fondue set that they dun need bcuz it is on discount. A research shows dat consumers tend to be drawn to shopping's more private pleasures, particularly d enjoyment of bargain hunting. The findings suggest dat bargain hunting, rather than being antithetical to shopping enjoyment, may b one of its most common sources.
Solution: Author and financial planner Dee Lee cites her sister's strategy for sorting out needs and wants. She carried a small card v 3 Qs on it, 'Do I want it? Do I need it? Why? She wuld make herself write down d anwers, and she found she culd seldom justify purchases on her tight budget. 'At some point, u've to look in d mirror and decide wut is a need and wut is a want,'agrees Greg McBride, Senior Financial Analyst at Banrate.com.

8. The addictive spender
If u've read the Shopaholic series, u'll definitely 've d main character, Rebecca Bloomwood, in ur mind. The addict also known as the compulsive shopper will often 've several credit cards and may go out in a compulsive or uncontrolled manner, and buy many of d same items all at once, items they may not want or need. They may feel guilty after a spending spree and then get depressed; then to combat the depression they go out and spend more money. Their addiction wil also lead them to lying, especially to d spouse, about wut was bought or how much money was spent.
Solution: Dun carry credit cards or checque books when going out. Just carry a limited amount of cash for d main essentials like food, drinks and petrol. There's no such thing as window shopping when it comes to d shopping addict as it will lead them into temptation. Dun play games or try to justify purchases. try to understand d nature of the problem - d emotional needs and personality traits dat encourage d compulsion. It's easier to get this done by talking to sum1, like a friend, to help u uncover ur problems.
