fitness is my priority...

It’s been 3mo now since I went to Gym everyday! I mean yes everyday (from Monday to Friday)! And I feel great now since I lost 8kgs oredy.. Before this, I only concerned about my weight ( I gain 10kgs in a year!!! And became worst in DPA) BUT right now what I concern more is my health and fitness… still remember during study time, I was so obsess of being fat & unhealthy since I study in health field! But after working, I wasn’t really care about what I eat, what I drink and most important my body image!!! That’s why I gain a lot in a year (can imagine my lecturer expression if she looks me now, she must be very surprise!).

Starting last May, I was determined that I must exercise & eating less to have my normal weight like I used to be before (48kgs)! So, I made a decision to go to KBS gym everyday after work, and I did it in 3 mo time! I already lost 8kgs now and counting to lose 5kgs more! I even fasting everyday (except weekends) and I still go to gym even I’m fasting… I know my action is too dramatic but it worth and I will continue going to the gym…

The most important thing is I feel so healthy and motivated now… I care so much about cholesterols, fats, oily food, sugary food, carbonated drinks and I only eat rice (which is the highest-carbohydrate content food) during weekends (sometime lah)! I’m disappointed with myself since I took nutrition course BUT I became neglectful in the past year which I don’t care about my dietary intake & body image! That was so wrong of me… so, starting now I will take a good care of my body, health & fitness! Fitness is my priority now and I know I will loose more weights if I’m taking serious of my fitness!

Talking about KBS Gym, I’m satisfied with the equipments & instructor as he helped so much when I’m on training… I will go to KBS usually at 5.30 pm and going back at 6.45/7pm depends on how many people in the gym!

I’m training using a few cardio & strength equipments. I will run first for 20-30 mins using the treadmill (most people will use it when coming to a gym I guess)! Then I will build my strength using the 4-way equipments (for muscles & flexibility) for about 20-30 mins before ending with cycling using the bikes…

Sometimes, I will natural running using the quite‘shakeable’ and fun equipments as below… I have so much fun using this equip!

BUT the thing I hate to do is sit up! I’m so lazy to sit up but I do it regularly with ‘cheating’ style! Hehehehehehe…

How about weekends?? I don’t forget weekends! I will jog at Titiwangsa Lake Park with my B every weekend! Both of us must being fit actually!!! Healthy lifestyle for everybody!!!

10 Diet & Nutrition Myths Debunked

1.Sugar Causes Diabetes
The most common nutrition myth is probably that sugar causes diabetes. If you have diabetes, you do need to watch your sugar and carbohydrate intake, with the help of your Registered Dietitian, to properly manage your blood sugar level. However, if you do not have diabetes, sugar intake will not cause you to develop the disease. The main risk factors for Type 2 diabetes are a diet high in calories, being overweight, and an inactive lifestyle.

2.All Fats are bad
It's a long-held nutrition myth that all fats are bad. But the fact is, we all need fat. Fats aid nutrient absorption and nerve transmission, and they help to maintain cell membrane integrity - to name just a few of their useful purposes. However, when consumed in excessive amounts, fats contribute to weight gain, heart disease and certain types of cancers.

Not all fats are created equal. Some fats can actually help promote good health, while others increase the risk for heart disease. The key is to replace bad fats (saturated fats and trans fats) with good fats (monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats).

3.Brown Sugar is better than White Sugar
The brown sugar sold at grocery stores is actually white granulated sugar with added molasses. Yes, brown sugar contains minute amounts of minerals. But unless you eat a gigantic portion of brown sugar every day, the mineral content difference between brown sugar and white sugar is absolutely insignificant. The idea that brown and white sugar have big differences is another common nutrition myth.

4.Brown Eggs are more nutritious than White Eggs
Contrary to a widely believed nutrition myth, eggshell color has nothing to do with the quality, flavor, nutritive value, cooking characteristics, or shell thickness of an egg. The eggshell color only depends upon the breed of the hen.

According to the Egg Nutrition Council, "white shelled eggs are produced by hens with white feathers and white ear lobes and brown shelled eggs are produced by hens with red feathers and red ear lobes. There is no difference in taste or nutrition content between white and brown colored eggs".

5.Avoid seafood to lower blood cholesterol
I still can't believe it, but I heard this nutrition myth from my own doctor! In fact, the dietary cholesterol found in seafood and other meats has little effect on blood cholesterol in most people. Saturated fats and trans fatty acids are the most important factors that raise blood cholesterol.

Saturated fats are usually found in meat products and packaged foods, and trans fatty acids are found in packaged snack foods, deep-fried foods or firm margarine containing hydrogenated oil.

6.Avoid carbohydrate to lose weight
The key message that many low-carb diets convey is that carbohydrates promote insulin production, which in turn results in weight gain. Therefore by reducing carbohydrate intake, you can lose weight. Unfortunately, this is just another nutrition myth.

Many low-carb diets actually do not provide sufficient carbohydrates to your body for daily maintenance. Therefore your body will begin to burn stored carbohydrates (glycogen) for energy. When your body starts burning glycogen, water is released. Therefore the drastic initial drop of weight at the beginning of a low-carb diet is mostly the water that you lose as a result of burning glycogen.

The truth is that low-carb diets are also often calorie-restricted! Followers only eat an average of 1000 - 1400 calories daily, compared to an average intake of 1800 -2200 calories for most people. To lose one pound a week, you only need to eat 500 fewer calories per day in your normal diet. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you eat a high- or low-carb diet, you will lose weight if you decrease your caloric intake to less than needed to maintain your weight.

7.Avoid nuts as they are fattening
Yes, it's true that nuts are quite calorically dense. Fifteen cashews, for instance, deliver 180 kilocaleries! On top of that, it is very tough not to overeat these tasty snacks. But if you can restrain yourself from overeating them, nuts can be a part of a healthy diet.

It's a nutrition myth that nuts should be avoided. In fact, nuts are high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (the good fats) as well as plant sterols, all of which have been shown to lower LDL cholesterol.

In 2003, the FDA approved a health claim for seven kinds of nuts stating that "scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces (45 grams) per day of most nuts as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease." Instead of simply adding nuts to your diet, the best approach is to eat them in replacement of foods high in saturated fats.

8.Eating for 2 is necessary during pregnancy
Energy requirements vary among individuals. Unfortunately, the idea that pregnancy is an ice cream free-for-all is a nutrition myth. It is generally recommended that pregnant women increase their daily intake by 100 kcal in the first trimester and 300 kcal in the second and third trimesters. An extra snack before bedtime consisting of a fruit, a serving of milk or yogurt, and a few biscuits is often enough.

A daily prenatal multivitamin supplement is often recommended during pregnancy, but not a daily bowl of ice cream!

9.Skipping meals can help lose weight
Many people think that by skipping a meal, they will be eating less food and therefore lose weight. As we now know, this is a nutrition myth. People who think skipping meals means weight loss do not understand how our bodies work.

If you skip a meal, your body will think that you are in starvation mode and therefore slow down the metabolism to compensate. You then tend to overeat at the next meal. Often, skipping a meal and then eating too much at the next one means that you have a higher total caloric intake than if you just ate more frequently throughout the day. A better approach is to eat smaller frequent healthy meals and snacks to keep your blood sugar balanced.

10.Red meat is bad for health
I often hear people saying that they do not eat red meat. When I ask why they don't, or even what they consider to be red meat, the answers vary dramatically.

It is true that some studies have linked red meat with increased risk of heart disease, partly due to the saturated fat content. In fact, even chicken can contain as much saturated fat as lean cuts of beef or pork. For instance, a serving of sirloin beef or pork tenderloin has less saturated fats than the same serving size of chicken thigh with skin. It is true that poultry like chicken and turkey is naturally lower in saturated fats. But it is only true IF you do not eat the skin.

It is a nutrition myth, however, that red meat is altogether bad for your health. Instead of excluding red meats, choose leaner cuts of beef and pork. For beef, choose eye of round, top round roast, top sirloin and flank; for pork, choose tenderloin and loin chops.

Maxis Centre 250708

PIC: MAJU JUNTION

I’m so frustrated with Maju Junction Maxis Centre when I went there on Friday to pay my Maxis & Broadband bills! Last 3 months, I already registered for Maxis Family Plan with a free promotion of my broadband month charge; it will be RM118/mo! Yeah, and for the third time my bill still appeared RM138/mo! And for the 3rd time I went to the Maju Junction Maxis Centre to complain about the bill and the dealer informed me he already merged my bill for 2times but the result still the same, he added that he got no power to merge the bill again! And he asked me to call the Maxis System Operator to complain, and then I called straightly at that time! When I spoke with the operator, she said there was no merging was done before and I have to pay RM138/mo from May until July! She even blames me for not calling the System Operator to merge my account! What the hell?? I’m as their costumer and I have to call them to merge my account?? How am I supposed to know if I wasn’t told by the dealer???? That’s really made me angry and I warned that operator I’m going to rise this matter to consumer association on consumer rights (it happened for third time in a row)! That’s made me really upset and disappointed with Maxis, they are making profit BUT they don’t care about their costumer rights!

After that, I informed to the dealer about my conversation with the operator, and the dealer said he will make the complaint for me and I just pay RM118! I hope he really will make a complaint about my case and I hope it will not happen anymore, I mean for August bill! If it happens again, I will bring this matter to the consumer association!

My MSc Scroll

Finally I got it on July 25, 2008 which I supposed to receive it on August 13, 2007 (it’s been a year already)! I’m glad finally I received it even I received in an ‘informal’ event! I’m proud of myself! Thanks Allah for giving such a wonderful gift & pleasure! Now, I must plan for my next step: PhD… InsyaAllah, in the next 2 yrs time! May Allah bless me!

Five years in UKM ( 3yrs-BSc & 2yrs-MSc) made me a better & successful person! Amen…

Pink & Cute Pouch

This is a gift from Kak Anis (my officemate-senior)! She bought it at Bandung, Indonesia when she went for a holiday last month! Thanx Kak Anis, this is really sweet & cute! I love it!

7 Ways to Hurt Yourself at the Gym

The gym offers so much variety when it comes to exercise, it's tempting to jump in and try it all. But, there are some common mistakes exercisers make that may end up hurting more than helping. Learn how to avoid injury and get the most of out your workouts with these simple tips.

1. Doing Too Much Too Soon
If you're getting started with exercise, it's tempting to try to make up for lost time by doing everything at once. After all, you want to see results. The problem? You wake up the next morning and realize you need a crane to get out of bed. Some soreness is normal but if you can't function, you went too far. Tips for getting started:

i.Ease into cardio. Start with 3-4 days at a light-medium intensity until you get used to the workouts.
ii. Keep it simple. Even if you used to lift weights, your body needs time to adapt. Start with 8-10 exercises and do 1 set of 10-12 reps for the first week or so.
iii. Rest. If you feel sore, give yourself extra recovery days. You may need a few weeks of consistent exercise to build a strong foundation.

2. Holding Onto the Treadmill for Dear Life
Beginners may need to hold onto the rails at first, but be careful: You risk injuring yourself. Holding on puts your body in an unnatural position that could strain the shoulders. It can also affect posture and reduce the calories burned.

i)If it's a habit, wean yourself off by taking your hands off every other minute, increasing that time each week.
ii)If you're holding on so you don't fall off, slow down. Going too fast defeats the purpose.
iii)If you feel shaky, try taking one hand away and once that feels comfortable, take the other hand away as well.

Keep in mind that it's not just the treadmill. Avoiding the rails on any machine will help you improve balance, burn more calories and move in a more natural way.

3. Using Bad Form
Using bad form doesn't just compromise your workouts, it also puts your body at risk, possibly leading to pain or injuries. Bad form comes in many shapes and sizes, but a few common mistakes:

i)Straining the knees. When doing squats or lunges, keep the knees behind the toes. Pushing the knees forward puts pressure on the joints and could cause injury. To avoid this, learn proper form for squats and lunges or work with a professional.
ii)Rounding the back. When bending over for an exercise, such as dumbbell rows, keep the back flat or slightly arched to protect the back from injury. To make it easier, bend the knees or raise up until you can keep the back flat.
In general, good form ensures you're getting the most out of each exercise.

4. Lifting Too Heavy
It can be tough choosing the right weights so if you don't have a spotter nearby, it's better to go too light than too heavy. Lifting weights that are too heavy can lead to:

i)Strained or torn muscles
ii_Losing control of the weight and dropping it
iii)Swinging the weight to complete the exercise, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise and could lead to injury
iii)Using bad form to get the weights up, which could put your back, shoulders or knees at risk for injury

5. Bouncing When You Stretch
There are different ways to stretch the body. The most common is static stretching, which involes holding stretches for a period of time to increase flexibility. But, one thing you want to avoid is bouncing while you stretch.
When you bounce, you force the muscles beyond their normal range of motion, which can lead to strained muscles or tendons. This is especially true when the muscles are cold and less pliable. To avoid injury:

i)Warm up before you stretch or save the stretches for after your workout
ii)Ease into the stretch, only going as far as your flexibility allows. Stretching should never cause pain.
iii)Make stretching a regular part of your routine to maintain flexibility

6. Doing the Same Thing Over and Over
If you've been doing the same routine for months or years, you're putting stress on the same muscles, joints and connective tissue every time you exercise. This could lead to an overuse injury as well as burnout and boredom. Some common overuse injuries include tendonitis, shin splints and stress fractures.
To avoid overuse injuries:

i)Try cross-training. Try activities that use different muscles and movements. For example, If you run, try something low or no impact like swimming.
ii)Change your routine. Shake things up by changing your workout schedule, trying new moves or changing your method of training.
iii)Work with a trainer. A pro can show you different ways to strengthen and stretch the body to help protect it from injury.

7. Skipping Your Warm Up
If you're short on time, you may be tempted to skip the warm up and jump right into your workout. But the warm up is one of the most important parts of your exercise routine. By easing into exercise with light movement, you can gradually raise your heart rate, increase oxygen to the body and increase blood flow to the muscles. Not only will that make the transition to exercise more comfortable, it also prevents injuries by increasing the elasticity of the muscles.
Always allow an extra 5-10 minutes before the workout and warm up with a little light cardio.

fuhhh

finally, i feel relief! this morning i had a very long & boring meeting (can u imagine: from 9am till 12pm!)... the chairperson also couldnt control the meeting since everybody wanted to give their opinions & ideas (what made me sick is the officer from MARDI & LKIM)!

after the meeting, i went back to my office, still got lots of things to settle by today cuz tomorrow im on leave (hooooraaayyyy)! my boss was in my room from 12.30 to 1.30pm! pastu, wat paperworks skit.. skrg baru nak rehat... tp my boss masuk balik suh wat ini & itu.. wat ajer as SYMP.. so many things to come right now, so will go back a lil bit late today.. what more to say hah? just settle my things first lah.. later i cont!

Life Facts

Maybe we need to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to appreciate that gift.

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was one of the best times you've ever had.

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart, but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.

It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real!

Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.

Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a tear.

The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying...

Tomato world's most popular fruit

The tomato is the world's most popular fruit. And yes, just like the brinjal and the pumpkin, botanically speaking it is a fruit, not a vegetable. More than 60 million tons of tomatoes are produced per year, 16 million tons more than the second most popular fruit, the banana. Apples are the third most popular (36 million tons), then oranges (34 million tons) and watermelons (22 million tons).

Tomatoes were first cultivated in 700 AD by Aztecs and Incas. Explorers returning from Mexico introduced the tomato into Europe, where it was first mentioned in 1556. The French called it "the apple of love," the Germans "the apple of paradise."

Tomatoes are rich in vitamins A and C and fibre, and are cholesterol free. An average size tomato (148 gram, or 5 oz) boasts only 35 calories. Furthermore, new medical research suggests that the consumption of lycopene - the stuff that makes tomatoes red - may prevent cancer. Lycopene is part of the family of pigments called carotenoids, which are natural compounds that create the colours of fruits and vegetables. For example, beta carotene is the orange pigment in carrots. As with essential amino acids, they are not produced by the human body. Lycopene us the most powerful antioxidant in the carotenoid family and, with vitamins C and E, protect us from the free radicals that degrade many parts of the body.

The scientific term for the common tomato is lycopersicon lycopersicum, which mean "wolf peach." It is a cousin of the eggplant, red pepper, ground cherry, potato, and the highly toxic belladonna, also known as the nightshade or solanaccae. There are more than 10,000 varieties of tomatoes.

Tomatoes are used in many food product, including, of course, tomato sauce (ketchup), pasta and pizza. According to a Steel Packing Council survey of 1997, 68% of chefs use canned tomatoes for convenience, quality and flavouring. It hasn't changed much since.

A fruit is the edible part of the plant that contains the seeds, while a vegetable is the edible stems, leaves, and roots of the plant.

Cooked tomatoes have higher concentrations of lycopene than non-cooked tomatoes.

Don't store ripe tomatoes in the fridge. Cold temperatures lessen the flavour in tomatoes.

Down + Unmotivated + Stress

So sad... susah nak cakap! today mcm2 berlaku pd i! knp mesti jadi hari yg mlg harini! knp i? knp? Ya Allah, begitu banyak dugaan yg ko berikan kepada diri hambamu harini... Sedih sgt2, hanya Tuhan yang tahu! tak pasal2 diri i jd mangsa kesilapan org atasan.. knp erk? knp nama shakirajefrydin yang keluar? knp mesti i? mcm2 dah i wat, bekerja keras, belajar sesuatu sebelum melaksanakan kerja, minta pandangan dan bantuan senior tetapi kenapa akhirnya diri i yg dipersalahkan atas perlakuan yg tak pernah i buat? tetiba i jadi separuh gila harini, dr pg sampe ptg (sepanjang waktu kerja) ade aje yg tak kena! pnt2 prepare utk meeting pg td tetibe cancel, pastu salahkan org atas ape yg diarahkan oleh die! tensen lah keje dgn 'pompuan tua' ni, knp mesti die sambung umor persaraan die? die tak tahu ke semua pegawai benci and tak suke die? knp die tak faham2 ag? i rasa belum sampe umo 58 die dah nyanyuk! die cakap i tak wat keje???? banyak lawa ke die nak cakap mcm tuh?? padahal i yg bersusah payah duk menguruskan pentadbiran bahagian, dengan mslh agropelancongan & TPM yang menyusahkan lagi.. pastu bende2 kecik2 yg die pandang.. bila menteri dah sound baru die nak amik berat & salahkan org lain! ape guna pengalaman keje die berpuluh tahun kat JPM tuh??? haprak pun takde, cakap boleh r! tak tau menghargai kerja org lain!

paling menyedihkan ade org tuduh i melakukan sumting yg mmg big mistake! sgt memalukan bila i kena tuduh benda yg i tak wat! knp Tuhan menduga sebegitu besar sekali??? thats why i tak pernah suke dengan keje ni, knp mesti i ikut cakap family and terima keje ni??? akhirnya diri sendiri yang merana, tak pasal2! tensen lah kalo mcmni, pasni mesti org pandang lain je pd i! padahal i tak pernah terlintas atau termimpi pun nak wat perkara mcm tuh!!! sungguh dengan nama Allah i bersumpah i tak buat perkara yang dituduh tu!

time2 mcm ni baru sgt2 menyesal i terima keje ni!!! i wish i could be a nutritionist/lecturer, my life will be happier and satisfy! sesungguhnya sesuatu yang berlaku tu ada hikmahnye! semoga Allah bukakan hati org yang menuduh tu untuk mengakui kesilapan die!

17 July 2008 akan dikenang sampe bila2 kerana hari inilah hari yang paling malang & mengecewakan dalam hidup i!

Pink is a pale red color that was first recorded in the 17th century to describe the pale red flowers of pinks, flowering plants in the genus Dianthus. This color stands for beauty, grace and goodness. The color pink itself is a combination of red and white. Other tints of pink may be combinations of rose and white, magenta and white, or orange and white.

Roseus is a Latin word meaning "rosy" or "pink." Lucretius used the word to describe the dawn in his epic poem On the Nature of Things (De Rerum Natura). [2] The word is also used in the binomial names of several species, such as the Rosy Starling (Sturnus roseus) and Catharanthus roseus.
